Welcome to our community...

What Is Periscope?
A hub of storytelling, connection, and information. It’s an invitation to dig deeper into your community through shared events and information. We want your press releases, your opinions, your recipes and more.
Who Are We?
A collaboration of journalists, teachers, visual storytellers, and friends and neighbors just like you. Never been published before? That’s okay, we’ll review and help you revise your submissions and opinion pieces in your field of expertise. Review our guidelines below.

Submission Guidelines
We’re so glad you’re here. Are you passionate about education, nature, food, Maine travel, wildlife advocacy, housing issues, small government, farming, fishing or something else? Perhaps you’re an expert in one of these areas, or perhaps you’ve learned something new (to you) and you’re excited to share. We’d love to hear from you. Here are our guidelines:
You may pitch story ideas that you don’t necessarily want to write. If our team finds it of interest, timely, and has the capacity to cover it, we will follow up for more information.
Already have something written? Please keep it below 1,200 words. Exceptions may apply if the subject matter demands and if it can be turned into a two-part story.
We reserve the right to edit for grammar and succinctness to meet the standards of our brand. We may share our edits before publication depending on the timeline of publication, but edited content will always come with an editor’s note.
General submissions are not financially compensated at this time. We are unpaid freelancers who share donations for gas and miscellaneous. Donations do not currently cover the full costs of production, but that may change in the future. We don’t have a paywall for content posted on socials as we strive to keep our brand accessible to all and for all. We currently don’t run ads, but that may be subject to change. Any future sponsored content will be clearly advertised as such.
Submissions containing viewpoints of any political, religious, or socioeconomic background may be shared. But if there is even a hint of suggested hate speech or ideas that cause harm, we will not consider your submission. We may or may not explain why.
If you are a small business and wish to have a feature written about you, a third party must pitch the story. We prefer that the story be timely and of interest beyond your daily operations. Maine is comprised of many small businesses, so this area is competitive. If you have been featured in other local publications for the same story or idea, we may not be interested.
